Champlain Technology Group Successfully Finishes Broadband Expansion for New NY Broadband Program Phase II Grant

Champlain, NY– Champlain Technology Group announced on-time completion of the first stage of its New NY Broadband Program project to expand high-speed broadband Internet service to more than 330 homes and businesses in unserved rural areas in the northern tier of Clinton County in the townships of Mooers and Altona.

The completed fiber backbone, which deploys nearly 61 miles of new fiber-optic cable, meets Champlain Technology Group’s commitment for its New NY Broadband Program Phase II award.  Champlain Technology Group will now begin work to install service for the individual 330+ households and businesses that are part of the identified grant project.  This next project segment will continue throughout 2019 and 2020.

Greg MacConnell, Vice-President of Champlain Technology Group, recently stated, “We are very pleased to be able to substantially upgrade the speed and quality of broadband service for many of our customers in the most rural parts of our serving area with the direction of the New York State Broadband Program.  Upon conversion to the fiber network, those that the state identified as unserved or underserved will soon see much needed improvements in their broadband access and speed.  This is very important to many families in our area who need reliable broadband access for students in their household to access educational materials, as well as for adults needing reliable connectivity to work from home and other important everyday activities.”

“We congratulate Champlain Technology Group on its launch of high-speed internet in partnership with the Broadband Program Office,” said Jeffrey Nordhaus, Empire State Development Executive Vice President of Innovation and Broadband.  “Broadband is a necessity for all communities in today’s economy and this launch is bringing tremendous benefit to more than 300 locations in Clinton County, which will be connected to high-speed internet for the very first time.”

These projects were supported by approximately $1.36 million in New York State funding and $340,725 in private matching funding for a total broadband investment of $1.7 million.

The New NY Broadband Program was developed to help fund the expansion of high-speed Internet service to unserved and underserved areas of New York State. Fiber-to-the-home technology will bring increased connectivity capable of delivering broadband service with highly increased speeds and symmetrical upload/download capacity. In the areas served by this project, Champlain Technology Group will be offering customers new standard speeds of 300 Mbps download and 25 Mbps upload.
